This week: tools I cannot function without during sewing! It is super important to me to use time efficiently and sew samples together as exactly as possible. Here are three tools that help me do that:
6 inch ruler π I am often checking the seam allowances, hem widths and stitching distances with my 6 inch ruler as I sew!
Snips βοΈ These are so important that I literally tie them to each of my machines. π I use them to clip off excess thread from each end of a seam after sewing. Scissors take longer to pick up, position in my hand, and pose a risk to fabrics which could inadvertently be caught in the comparatively long blades. Snips are small, swift, and safer.
Pinsπ I like to use pins at notches*, marking important locations where there are no notches, or along curvy edges to make sure the fabric is distributed properly throughout the seam.
In fashion school I remember joking with my peers about wanting to turn my arms into rulers. π We didn't sleep much. π€£
